ABOUT THE WALL STREET COACH:
At the height of the Wall Street shakedown, Kim Ann Curtin walked up to the steps of the New York Stock Exchange with a hand-written sign that read, “The coach is in. FREE!” She sat down and waited patiently. Unsure of what might come of the experience, and having just walked away from a lucrative Wall Street job herself, Kim felt a strong calling to respond to the market carnage in a very direct, immediate and real way. Kim was amazed at the deep and honest connections she made that day with workers at every rung of the corporate finance ladder. She returned several more times over the course of the year.

Many of those who spoke with Kim felt stunned by the meltdown and were at a loss for their next steps. They also began to ask themselves some deeper question, such as: Were they in the right career? What was their ‘why’ behind the industry they had been working in? With the rumblings of the Occupy Wall Street movement beginning to take shape, they were feeling tremendous pressure of expectation from their families and friends, clients, peers and bosses, and the judgement of the media, government and the general public.

Kim quickly recognized a common thread. These hard workers, good-intentioned people with families to support, had nowhere to go to reconcile and work through the full spectrum of their outer and inner feelings, their relationship with money, their desire for achievement, integrity and abundance, while retaining their emotional equanimity no matter the market. Thus, The Wall Street Coach was born.

CLIENT DIRECTIVE:
Wall Street, and the world of finance in general, has many unspoken rules around what is expected, encouraged and rewarded. And these rules are often further complicated by old-world gender barriers and rank and class distinctions. It is a brave soul indeed who puts “wealth” and “consciousness” in the same sentence. And Kim is on a clear mission to coax them out of the closet. In her research and exploration, she has reached out to close to 100 of the top financiers in the country and engaged them in conversation about the topic. She is compiling the wisdom that is emerging from these dialogues into what will surely be a very timely, thought-provoking and ground-breaking book called Transforming Wall Street: A Conscious Path for a New Future.

ABOUT SANTI YOGA:
Barbara Delledonne insists that the community — not she — leads the classes, but nonetheless Barbara is an accomplished and inspiring instructor. Her students are infinitely appreciative of what she gives to them in terms of guidance, knowledge and compassion, as well as a community that nurtures and supports each other.

CLIENT DIRECTIVE:
Barbara wanted to convey that her classes are made up of a community of every day people of every body type, age and skill level who come together to meet up with themselves wherever they may be that day – tired and stressed or just disconnected and distracted. Even in one’s beautifully crafted imperfection, one can find an active, yet mindful and peaceful place from which to draw strength, healing and revitalization.

Santi Yoga’s previous materials featured a stock image of a woman with perfect posture meditating in front of a bamboo screen with her back to the viewer and a lotus flower nearby. Though it was a lovely photo, the actual location looks nothing like what is depicted and the woman is very obviously staged for generic yoga or meditation stock image usage. This can be intimidating to a newcomer and doesn’t convey the very down-to-earth, warm, friendly and inviting atmosphere that Santi Yoga is all about.

The first thing we did was invite the Santi community to enjoy a free class with their permission to be photographed. We allowed the students to enjoy the class as they normally would, we didn’t use any fancy lighting or force students to hold perfect poses. We wrote text that talks directly to her audience and included environmental photos that locals would quickly recognize as scenes from the area of Long Island’s Eastern North Shore Beach. The new logo was hand-painted and designed to match the eastern-inspired fabrics and textures found throughout the studio.

ABOUT A2 FITNESS:
The gym is not a one-size-fits-all fitness solution and Camille Wynn is determined to bridge the gap for those wish to make a change and live a healthier, more balanced lifestyle but who have given up on going to the gym or do have a workout routine but are dissatisfied with the experience and/or their results. Camille works primarily with women, especially women of color over the age of 40, a group that is much more likely to feel intimidated, overwhelmed and out of place in a gym setting than any other demographic.

CLIENT DIRECTIVE:
Advertisers are well aware that it is a yearly ritual to make New Year’s resolutions to transform into the sculpted specimens we see in fitness magazines and gym ads. Responsible only for selling memberships, these ads don’t do much to dispel unrealistic expectations most of us have about what the gym can do for us.

The portraits we took of Camille are deliberately soft and sensual, more classic in lighting style. We wanted people to know that she is approachable, empathetic, patient but also firm, knowledgeable, experienced and consistent … ready to begin. We combined these images with messaging about honoring one’s body, mind & spirit with honesty, commitment and follow-through.

We found that within days of placing these ads in the community, calls came in confirming that this message was received.

In one case, Camille received a call from a woman who told her she placed the ad on her frig and looked at it daily. She knew that when she made the call she needed to be serious and she needed to be ready, with a long-term commitment of time and also funds. She knew that she needed to be accountable to Camille as a partner, but more importantly she needed to be accountable to her higher self. Her priorities and her expectations were grounded in her desire to live a healthy lifestyle, and she was willing and trusting to make changes that might take her out of her comfort zone.

Camille is currently in the funding stage of opening an alternative women’s fitness location in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.

ABOUT CLIVE GOODWIN:
Clive Goodwin is an award-winning Sound Designer recognized for producing seamless, innovative and creative audio in tv, musical, theatrical and large-scale international entertainment platforms.

How I came to meet Clive makes a great story. One day a friend I had come to know from a trekking excursion in Peru with travel company Myths & Mountains called with an invitation to see Radiohead perform in New York City, compliments of a friend from London who was working on tour with the band. Fast forward 10 years and my friend and new friend Clive are now married and living on the outskirts of Boston. Several more years later, another phone call came with an invitation to see a little-known Off-Broadway musical called Once. Fast forward another year, another phone call and invitation to opening night of Once on Broadway. And a few months after that, we are watching Clive accept a Tony Award for Best Sound Design in a Musical!

CLIENT DIRECTIVE:
Clive was nervously excited about the award nomination and upcoming ceremony, and he needed a website… fast! Clive had no direction to give us, other than knowing him as our very talented friend, who also happens to be a gifted musician in his own right, a budding amateur photographer, motorcycle racer and of course spouse to another incredible personal friend, whom we met in a magical place. Life is full of wonder, delight and surprises!

A cross between Ella Fitzerald and Eva Cassidy — with a break-out of Janis Joplin or a full-on Spanish aria now and again — Deb De Lucca is the Jazz soloist we want to be swooned by in a smoke-filled downtown speakeasy on a foggy Friday night.

CLIENT DIRECTIVE:
De Lucca wanted a web presence to set the stage for the release of a new studio recording.
It was easy to picture ourselves seated at a candle-lit table, band at the ready, anticipation and excitement in the air, waiting for the curtain to open.
